Welcome to 5th Grade Band!

Welcome to the Brandon Valley 5th Grade Band! We are in for an exciting year as we work together to develop the skills and talents necessary to achieve our goals as young musicians!

Objectives for 5th Grade Band

Studying instrumental music in the 5th grade band program will broaden players' ability and understanding in the following areas:

1. Development of proper posture, breathing and tone production.
2. Development of music reading skills and rhythm skills.
3. Memorization of new notes and fingerings as introduced.
4. (For percussionists) development of rudiments as they are introduced while using correct stickings, playing accurate rhythms and tapping the steady beat.
5. Proper instrumental rehearsal techniques/habits.
6. Sensitivity to appropriate musical styles.

7. Appropriate stage presence and etiquette.

8. Leadership

9. Teamwork, accountability and responsibility.
