Conferences Coming in a few Weeks!

Parent-Teacher Conferences are coming in just a few weeks in February! My conference schedule for Monday, Feb. 13 is as follows:

Brandon Elementary: 1:30-3:30

Robert Bennis Elementary: 3:30-5:30

Fred Assam Elementary: 6:30-9:00

Please feel free to stop in and visit with me at any one of the campuses whenever it fits into you schedule. I am so pleased with the progress of the 5th graders and their efforts to continue developing their skills and talents on their instruments.

Objectives for 5th Grade Band

Studying instrumental music in the 5th grade band program will broaden players' ability and understanding in the following areas:

1. Development of proper posture, breathing and tone production.
2. Development of music reading skills and rhythm skills.
3. Memorization of new notes and fingerings as introduced.
4. (For percussionists) development of rudiments as they are introduced while using correct stickings, playing accurate rhythms and tapping the steady beat.
5. Proper instrumental rehearsal techniques/habits.
6. Sensitivity to appropriate musical styles.

7. Appropriate stage presence and etiquette.

8. Leadership

9. Teamwork, accountability and responsibility.
